LOTUS TEMPLE

It is a very recent architectural marvel of the Bahai faith. The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892), is regarded by Bahá'ís as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad. The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bahá'u'lláh said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification.

Lotus Temple is a Baha'i house of worship. Baha'i is a religion dating back to 1844, started by the Bab, a Persian who proclaimed himself the forerunner to prepare the way and herald the appearance of a new Spiritual Figure. He was martyred. Baha'u'llah was a follower of the Bab, and a few years after he was martyred, had an intimation that he was the Promised One foretold by the Bab, and proclaimed it several years later. The Baha'i faith is based on ideas of unity and humanitarianism and has the following principles:
a. The Oneness of Mankind
b. Independent investigation of Truth
c. The common foundation of all religions
d. The essential harmony of science and religion
e. Equality of Men and Women
f. Elimination of prejudice of all kinds
g. Universal compulsory education
h. Univeral peace

Many of the informational writings at the temple, and the plaques within the temple, had beautiful ideas and quotes about man's reverance for God, the Son of Man, our creator, and about the onenness of man with Him when He returns. They seemed almost Christian at first, but when I read more about the religion and the ideas that one day the whole human race will live in peace and unity in one common religion, it sounded like the world I believe to come when the Antichrist reigns. Still, the temple was beautiful, and the idealism and humanitarianism of the people who belong to this faith is noble. In the pictures, I've included a few shots of the information tablets for those who wish to read them. Otherwise, just look at the pictures of the temple!!

The Baha'i Temple of Delhi is spectacular in its design. 27 wonderful huge white petals of an unfolding lotus made of marble spring from nine pools and walkways. This symbolizes the nine unifying spiritual paths of the faith. Experience the solitude of Baha'i Temple with Hotels of Delhi. As a matter of fact no travel to Delhi is complete without visiting the temple.

The temple has a striking though plain central hall where you can meditate. The hall is 34.27m. high. Thought-provoking quotes of the Baha'i sacred scriptures are inscribed on the petal alcoves. Set amid beautiful gardens, the temple is at its most exuberant best when the sun dazzles these lotus petals. While entering you'll have to remove your shoes and keep silence.
